Thank you, Lord, for the gift of our communities, no matter our level of awareness of them or participation in them.

On a Prison Ministry, Even When Unjustly Imprisoned
“I got a rap on my office door recently. The rapper was Karl Keating giving a meet-and-greet tour of the apostolate for a man called Russell Ford and his friend, one Marshall Pickard. I, the rappee, had been looking forward to meeting the man I had admired for many years for his articles in the former This Rock magazine and for his tenacity and courage. Only months ago he had walked out of the Alabama prison system a free man after 25 years behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit.”
In a recent commentary, Patrick Coffin, host of the national radio show, Catholic Answers Live, reflected on Russell Ford and his evangelization ministry during the time he was in prison.

Thank you, Lord, for the beauty of ice formations on rocks and branches along running streams and brooks during the cold winter months.
On the Power of Humility
“Humility is something that Christians are supposed to strive for, and yet it is a difficult subject in modern-day America. Our culture often seems obsessed with fame, so we may assume that people who downplay their talents and accomplishments are actually doing so because they want praise and a better reputation.”
In a recent commentary, Tony Rossi, of The Christophers, offered an excerpt of a reflection on humility from a recent Christopher News Note.

Reflection Starter from Blessed Pope John XXIII
“Consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for you to do.” – Blessed Pope John XXIII

“Oh God, You Search Me and You Know Me”
As we continue to live this week, I offer this version of Bernadette Farrell’s “Oh God, You Search Me and You Know Me,” as sung by the Wells Cathedral Choir (Wells, Somerset, U.K.):
Burn Awareness Week
This week, the week of 3-9 February, is being observed as Burn Awareness Week. This observance is designed to provide an opportunity for burn, fire, and life safety educators to unite in sharing a common burn awareness and prevention message in their communities.
Annually in the United States and Canada, over 500,000 people receive medical treatment for burn injuries. Approximately half of these injuries are scalds. Most burns occur in the home, usually in the kitchen or bathroom.

Thank You, Lord
Thank you, Lord, for opportunities to unite our little sufferings, aches and pains, discomforts, discombobulations, and other sacrifices with the great sacrifice offered by Jesus in His passion and death.
Brandon Vogt Interview with Cardinal Timothy Dolan
“Today’s interview is a little unusual. First, it took place about a year ago, so I’ve waited awhile to post it. Second, I was actually the person being interviewed. Nevertheless, since it was such a great conversation with one of the Church’s most fascinating leaders, I thought I’d share it here.
Back in November 2011, I had the pleasure of chatting with Cardinal Timothy Dolan. He invited me onto his weekly radio show, then called "’A Conversation with the Archbishop’ and now called ‘Conversation with Cardinal Dolan’, and along with co-host Fr. Dave Dwyer we had a blast. Cardinal Dolan was just as warm, funny, and gracious as he comes across in his preaching and writing.”
In a recent post, writer Brandon Vogt presented this recent interview with Cardinal Dolan. In this interview, a number of topics were discussed that focused on the Church and the new media .
