Church to Begin “Year of Faith”

To honor the fiftieth anniversary of the Second Vatican Council and the twentieth anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI has announced a “Year of Faith,” starting tomorrow (11 October) and ending 24 November 2013 (the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King), to strengthen the faith of Catholics and draw the world to faith by their example.

The Year of Faith is intended to reflect one of the themes of Pope Benedict’s pontificate, the New Evangelization, and it is intended to, among its other goals, “arouse in every believer the aspiration to profess the faith in fullness and with renewed conviction, with confidence and hope.”
