This week, the week of 3-9 February, is being observed as
National Burn Awareness Week. This observance is designed to provide an
opportunity for burn, fire, and life safety educators to unite in
sharing a common burn awareness and prevention message in their
communities.
Annually in the United States and Canada, over 500,000 people receive medical treatment for burn injuries. Approximately half of these injuries are scalds. Most burns occur in the home, usually in the kitchen or bathroom.
