"Sometimes God works in mysterious ways
that we can't understand. We may not be sure what exactly it is God
wants us to do. At other times God's will for us can be painfully
simple. I say simple because what God wants us to do can often be quite
obvious. I say painfully because that obvious task is not necessarily
easy. Sometimes, we would rather have God's will for us be mysterious
rather than pay the cost that the obvious task demands of us."
In a recent commentary, Brother Bartholomew Calvano, O.P.,
reflected on Saint Francis Xavier (whose memory the Church celebrates today, 3 December) as an example of someone who "followed God's will for him when it was simple and straightforward."
