"St. Peter was a favorite of St. Francis de Sales. At a turning point in his ministry Jesus describes Peter's faith in him as the Rock upon which he would build his Church. But Peter also tended at times to be weak and wobbly as well, often disappointing Jesus, once denying even knowing him and, of course, a 'no show' at Calvary. Yet, for de Sales, Peter is a perfect model for Christian discipleship. For Peter shows us that, despite our sins and failings, God's grace can raise us up to great holiness if, like Peter, we turn back to Jesus - no matter how often - with a repentant heart."
