"One of the endearing qualities of Catholics is that we have great
reverence and affection for our loved ones who have died. This is true
throughout the year but especially in November, the month devoted to the
faithful departed.
"Our reverence for the deceased has theological
roots. We believe in the Communion of Saints; that the Church exists in
the faithful here on earth, in the poor souls in purgatory, and in the
saints triumphant in heaven. . . ."
In a recent commentary, Bishop Thomas J. Tobin, of the Diocese of Providence
(RI), reflected on some of the ways we can remember and honor our beloved dead.
