Msgr. Pope on the Violence of our Age

"In the wake of recent violence at Annunciation School and the assassination of Charlie Kirk, I propose the following reflection on the widespread theme of vengeance in movies, video games and other modern cultural expressions. The video below is from an unusual source, but I think he is 100% right in calling out hypocrisy in much of Hollywood and other cultural outposts.

"When I was a young man in my twenties I loved 'action movies.' . . .

"In recent years I have lost interest in these movies. Some of it is age. But a lot of it is my Christian walk. . . ."

In a recent commentary based on the writing of St. Teresa of Avila, Msgr. Charles Pope (pastor of Holy Comforter-Saint Cyprian Parish, Washington, DC) reflected on how, "as we grow in our Christian walk, the notion of raw violence as a form of entertainment, becomes increasingly untenable for us. Violence is something we increasingly mourn, increasingly find troubling. . . ."
