According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, local governments can play an important role in facilitating the cleanup and redevelopment of properties contaminated by hazardous substances.
EPA is offering a new fact sheet as a resource for local governments concerned about incurring potential CERCLA (Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, commonly known as Superfund) liability as a result of their activities to facilitate cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated properties.
