Providence Franciscan Chapel Closing

It is with sadness I report that the Franciscan Friars Holy Name Province is closing Saint Francis Chapel in downtown Providence tomorrow (7 November). The order has been active in the Diocese of Providence for 56 years. The Franciscans will also discontinue running Saint Mary's Parish in Providence (although it will continue operating Our Lady of Lourdes parish).

It appears that financial concerns are the main reason for these decisions.

I've been blessed to have the opportunity to participate in Mass at the chapel as well as go to confession, participate in the Liturgy of the Hours and in community praying of the Rosary, and visit the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament there many times over the past decades.
