Fr. Ryan Erlenbush on Early Morning Prayer

In a recent commentary related to the Gospel reading of today (the Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time), Father Ryan Erlenbush offered some good thoughts on early morning prayer.

The New Theological Movement: The heroic minute, immediately upon waking - the first battle of the day (4 FEB 11)

Long ago I got into the habit of saying “Good Morning, Lord,” and spending a few introductory minutes of prayer. Then I would busy myself with making coffee, etc. I do spend other early morning time in prayer, including reading and reflecting on the assigned readings for the day. Sometimes, though (especially if I wake up a bit late), some portions of my morning prayer get temporarily postponed – and then I don’t return to them. This reflection is a good reminder to me. (I don’t know if I had ever previously thought of the “first fruits” aspect of this practice.)

Thank you, Father Erlenbush, for this post.
