“At the beginning of the 1980s I found myself one glorious, late summer’s day in the crypt of a church in beautiful Fiesole, overlooking the city of Florence. I had just received bad news about my health and was full of fear and foreboding. A curious thing then happened. In that crypt I gradually experienced a great and consoling sense of peace, that ‘all would be well’, whatever the outcome. It was a sense which was rooted in fellow-feeling with all those who had gone before over the centuries, not least the first century St Romulus after whom the church was named. It was that inter-generational support of the Communion of Saints, a gift from God in time of need.”
In a recent commentary, Father Gerry O’Hanlon, S.J., reflected on aspect of the Eucharist in our lives.
