Vermont Supreme Court Rules Public Records Include Police Dispatch Logs

In a recent unanimous decision, the Vermont Supreme Court ruled that police records (including dispatch logs) are not automatically exempt from the Vermont Access to Public Records Act. While the law includes certain exceptions “dealing with the detection and investigation of crime,” the Court held that the records would have to be individually evaluated to determine if they met the criteria to be shielded.
