Br. Dominic Verner, O.P., on the Lessons of Cinco de Mayo

“On May 5, 1862 a French army led by General Charles de Larencez launched an attack on an outnumbered and poorly equipped Mexican force guarding the city of Puebla, Mexico.”

A number of people celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but many do not know the origins of this observance. In a recent commentary, Brother Dominic Mary Verner, O.P., offered an historical background of and some comments about the significance of this observance.
