Over the years there has been a perception, with some truth in it, that there are not many services available to military veterans. A number of communities in this region have a municipal veterans official or agency that strives to advocate for local veterans and to provide or connect them with available support services.
One example of the improvement in the region’s services to veterans is the Massachusetts Department of Veterans’ Services. Among its many initiatives is an outreach team that works to address a variety of mental health and housing concerns of the veterans in the state. A major emphasis is being made to reach out to the veteran, wherever he or she is.
