National Walk to School Day

Today, 10 October, is being observed as Walk to School Day, an observance that dates back to 1997, when it was organized by the Partnership for a Walkable America and called National Walk to School Day. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school; it is currently sponsored by the National Center for Safe Routes to School initiative.
