A New England public servant servant recently died in the line of
duty, a reminder of the hazards and stresses faced by the members of the
region’s public safety services.
Captain Joel Barnes, 32, a two year veteran of the Berwick, ME, Fire Department, died Friday during firefighting operations at a four alarm apartment house fire at 10 Bell Street. Captain Barnes served as the Berwick Fire & Rescue training officer and emergency medical services coordinator; he was also a per diem firefighter in the Acton, ME, Fire Department. May he rest in peace.
