"Contemplative prayer remains a largely untapped resource for the renewal
of the Church. Many understand it to be no more than an esoteric or at
most therapeutic exercise. Others show little regard this spiritual
activity or anyone who dedicates his life to this effort. Even still,
this most simple and hidden movements of heart avails the world of a
power too great for time and space to hold. This surrender to the
surrender of God is the unseen spark the ignites the Church into a fiery
icon of Divine Presence when light and warmth are most needed."
In a recent commentary, Dr. Anthony Lilles (assistant professor of theology at Saint John Vianney Theological Seminary, Denver, CO) reflected on the relationship between contemplation and the renewal of the Church.
