A New England public servant servant recently died in the line of duty, a reminder of the hazards and stresses faced by the members of the region’s public safety services. Firefighter/EMT Colin McFadden, 26, a six year veteran of the Burlington, CT, Volunteer Fire Department, died suffered a medical emergency while operating at the scene of a three alarm residential structure fire in New Hartford, CT. He was transported to a medical facility, where he underwent emergency surgery. During treatment, it was discovered that he had leukemia, a previously undiagnosed condition, which caused his sudden illness.
