". . .Often in life, we are told that we must 'put our best foot forward' and withhold our real weaknesses.
"This is appropriate in a professional setting; after all, our coworkers are not there to be our
guidance
counselors! With friends, however, we do not need to put our best foot
forward; we can be vulnerable, we can 'let our hair down,' we can vent
about our frustrations, fears, and worries, because we trust that they
will support us without conditions.
"When Jesus calls us his
'friends'” do we believe him? Or do we subtly treat Jesus like our boss,
disguising our weaknesses and putting only our 'best foot forward'?"
In a recent commentary, Fr. Alex Wyvill reflected on
how we can approach Jesus as a friend..
