Christmas Village Decorations

One of my favorite type of Christmas decorations are Christmas villages.

My first memory of such a decoration was the one my grandmother (my mother's mother) had on top of her piano each Christmas time. Since that time, I have enjoyed examining a variety of village scenes in homes of friends, in public places, and elsewhere.

Yesterday, Myrna and I "happened to" go to Mass at Saint Ann's Church in Providence. They had a great village scene, apparently designed to look approximately like a village in biblical times (although it seemed to have a few more modern items). A number of the characters, etc., were animated (e.g., men working, children playing). Well done, St. Ann's!

  1. Hi Tom, Greetings to you and Myrna, Too bad I didn't know about the display at St. Ann's I live about two blocks from there...but I don't know when they're open. You bring back childhood memories, I had an "uncle" Bill, a family friend, who would every year build little houses and things of paper..this was during WW2, and little people skating on a pond made of a mirror surrounded by snow made of cotton. The skaters had skates made of paper clips. To we children this was awe-inspiring. Thank you Tom for transporting me back. aaaah!
