The World Geography: “15 Famous Living Trees”
“There are probably hundreds of famous living trees in the world. They are mostly known because of its location, age, size, unusual appearance, connections with some historical events or because of strange uses by humans. Most of these trees are visited by tens of thousands of tourists from around the world each year.”

Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today the Church celebrates the Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The assigned readings are 1 Kings 17:17-24, Galatians 1:11-19, and Luke 7:11-17. The Responsorial Psalm is Psalm 30 (Psalm 30:2, 4-6, 11-13).

The Gospel reading is as follows:
Jesus journeyed to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd accompanied him. As he drew near to the gate of the city, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. A large crowd from the city was with her.
When the Lord saw her, he was moved with pity for her and said to her, “Do not weep.”
He stepped forward and touched the coffin; at this the bearers halted, and he said, “Young man, I tell you, arise!” The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.
Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, exclaiming, “A great prophet has arisen in our midst,” and “God has visited his people.” This report about him spread through the whole of Judea and in all the surrounding region.

A Washington Post Report on the “New Evangelization”
“John Gallagher felt anxious as he set out on a rainy Sunday afternoon to knock on doors in Georgetown, inviting people to a barbecue and, hopefully, to Jesus Christ.
“The 25-year-old had been in Catholic schools through college, has a priest brother and a deacon father, and is a member of a parish and a young Catholics professional group — his faith is his core, his identity. But talk to strangers about it?
“That’s what the Vatican is asking Catholics to do — to take up evangelizing, to speak openly of one’s faith in order to spread it.”

Phil Donahue on Encouraging Children to Appreciate Nature
“Emmy Award-winning television personality Phil Donahue was not encouraged by teachers to wonder about nature as a boy.
“He discovered natural wonders himself on walks through the woods, bathed in dappled sunlight. ‘I recall looking at a brook and just being fascinated by the way the water ran down over those little stones and the flickering of the sunlight on that surface,’ Donahue said Thursday as he addressed about 75 people during the 15th annual meeting of the Friends of Sherwood Island State Park at the park’s Nature Center.”
In this presentation at Sherwood Island State Park (Connecticut’s first state park) in Westport, CT, Mr. Donohue spoke about the importance helping children develop an appreciation of nature.
