The Chester-Hadlyme and Rocky Hill-Glastonbury ferries in Connecticut have been in the news lately because the State of Connecticut is planning to shut down these ferries as part of the process to meet its current budget crisis. The ferries, which are treasures of New England, are both historic (especially the Rocky Hill-Glastonbury ferry) and tourist attractions (especially the Chester-Hadlyme ferry).
Although I have not used it recently, in passed years I used the Chester-Hadlyme ferry as a short cut, and I once took my children for a ride on it.
The fate of these two ferries rests, in a great way, with the current negotiations between the State and its unions.
