One of the food treats of New England is Boston cream pie. The official dessert of Massachusetts, it was created by M. Sanzian a French chef at the Parker House Hotel in Boston.
Boston cream pie is combination of cake (two layers, often sponge cake) and pudding (often vanilla custard or crème pâtissière - between the layers). The cake is covered on top with a chocalate glaze, and it may include powdered sugar and or a cherry.

(During my high school years when I worked at Oxley Drug, I would often treat myself to a slice of Boston cream pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for my Sunday breakfast.)
