National Night Out

Throughout New England and most of the U.S., yesterday was observed as the 29th Annual National Night Out, an initiative designed to:

• Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
• Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs;
• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
• Send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

The event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
