Yellow Dot Program

A number of public safety safety and community service agencies and organizations in Maine are collaborating to bring the Yellow Dot program to the state’s residents.

Yellow Dot is a free program designed to help first responders provide life-saving medical attention in the immediate aftermath of an accident or other emergency. Program participants have a Yellow Dot placed inside the driver’s-side rear window of their vehicle, and this emblem alerts first responders that vital medical information is stored in the vehicle’s glove compartment.

The Yellow Dot program began in Connecticut in 2002 (as a result of a collaboration between the Shelton Police Department, Shelton Senior Center, and People’s Bank), and it has since spread to a number of states (including Massachusetts) throughout the U.S.A.

Media reports:

Portland Press Herald: In Cumberland County, yellow dots could turn into lifesavers (9 OCT 12)

Connecticut Post: Seniors turn to stickers to save lives (25 JUN 11)

Senior Journal: Yellow Dot Program Aimed at Saving Older People in Automobiles Launched in Conn. (May 2002)
