Today, Monday, 18 January, is being celebrated as Martin Luther King, Jr.
Day of Service, an observance designed to honor the legacy of Dr. King
and to provide an opportunity for Americans from all walks of life to
work together to serve their neighbors and communities.
As part
of this observance, organizations and individuals around New England and
across the rest of the nation are participating in a number of
initiatives throughout the weekend. These initiatives include delivering
meals, refurbishing schools and community centers, collecting food and
clothing, signing up mentors, promoting nonviolence, supporting veterans
and military families, and much more.
