"We've all heard the slogan from Smokey the Bear. 'Only you can prevent forest fires.' If he means that only I as an individual can prevent forest fires, this is obviously nonsense. You can do it too. But he's right that unchecked wildfires will spread. The wildfires in Australia and California this past year are just two examples of how devastating and relentless wildfires can be. And we human beings often start these fires unintentionally. Take, for instance, the hapless couple whose fame began with what is surely now the most famous gender reveal on record. Igniting an inferno was the furthest thing from their minds. In the same way that anyone is able to help prevent a wildfire, anyone can cause one.
