The Christophers: "A Cold Awakening"

Today's "Three Minutes a Day" reflection from the Christophers, entitled "A Cold Awakening," is as follows:

"The L Street Brownies of Boston calls itself the oldest polar bear club in the country. That means that the members swim in freezing water, whether an outdoor pool, a lake or the ocean. Participants often prepare by warming up in a steam bath. Next, they will go out and swim about ten to twenty strokes.

"Jack Dever, the 70-year-old president of the group, grew up swimming in Dorchester Bay, and not just in the summer. While he admits that it’s a shock to the system to jump into icy water in the winter, he insists that 'It’s addictive. You tolerate things when you swim in cold water.'

"Sometimes, embracing difficult conditions can help you to better appreciate life. And that may assist in facing all your problems. Whatever you do, strive to fulfill your mission in life and to develop your relationship with God."

Prayer: "Divine Master, grant me the strength to endure whatever hardships come my way.  Guide me in caring for my neighbors in their troubles, as well."
