Bishop Thomas Tobin (Diocese of Providence, RI) recently wrote a thoughtful reflection on the importance of the liturgy in the life of the Church, in the life of the people who make up the Church, and, considering its importance, the need for properly participating in the Mass.
Thoughtful consideration of this insightful presentation may lead one (whether one is ordained or not) to ponder, “How well do I prepare for Mass, for this direct encounter with our Lord and Savior?”
As a priest, busy as he was, Saint John Bosco made sure he took several minutes to properly prepare to celebrate this holy sacrifice. In the lives of each of us, sometimes things happen just before Mass that legitimately need to be dealt with. Most times, though, if we look at our lives, we have time to prepare our minds and hearts for this tremendous opportunity.
Thank you, Bishop Tobin, for this reminder. May I take time during this upcoming season of Lent to prayerfully review my preparation for and participation in this holy sacrifice.
