Food Day

Monday, 24 October, has been designated as Food Day by the Center for Science in the Public Interest. Designed to be a nationwide grassroots mobilization for healthier diets and improved food policies, the Center and a growing number of health, hunger, and sustainable agriculture groups are using this opportunity to encourage people around the country to sponsor or participate in activities that encourage Americans to "eat real" and support healthy, affordable food grown in a sustainable, humane way. Among other activities, participants are encouraging the public to buying more produce, meat, and eggs from local farms and to donate to food banks, farmers markets, and/or other local organizations.

Among the many organizations partnering with the Center for Science in the Public Interest in sponsoring Food Day are the New England Coalition for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, the National Catholic Rural Life Conference, the National Association of County and City Health Officials, the American Public Health Association, the National Farm to School Network, and the Community–Based Public Health Caucus.
