Retirement Fund for Religious

Parishes in the Diocese of Providence will be taking up a collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious this weekend.

The Retirement Fund for Religious is an annual appeal sponsored by the National Religious Retirement Office (NRRO). The NRRO was established in 1986 and is sponsored by the Conference of Major Superiors of Men, Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious, Leadership Conference of Women Religious, and United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Over 34,000 women and men religious benefit from this fund. Contributions help furnish funding for financial, educational, and other support that helps religious communities care for senior members.

The annual appeal is conducted in Advent in most Catholic parishes in the United States. Some of the 195 Catholic dioceses in the U.S. conduct the appeal at other times, and others combine the appeal with other national or diocesan appeals.
