Rhode Island Governor Chafee has chosen to exclude the word Christmas from the tree that graces the Rhode Island State House, a decision that has drawn a number of comments from concerned Rhode Islanders and other observers.

The lighting ceremony, sponsored jointly by the parish and the Diocese of Providence, will be at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, 6 December - the same date and time as the holiday tree lighting in the State House Rotunda.
