"The Catholic Church in Rhode Island is
diminished, with attendance at Mass down 57%, attendance at Catholic
elementary schools down 56% and the number of priests down by nearly
half since the year 2000; but at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Fox
Point, Father Joe Escobar tends a growing flock, and his dedication to
his faith, his church and his parish are part of the reason.
"I saw that attendance at Rhode Island
Catholic Church Masses is down a stunning 57% since 2000, so I went to
visit Father Joe Escobar to see what's going on.
He's the longtime pastor at Fox Point's Our Lady of the Rosary Church at Wickenden and Benefit in Providence.
"Father Joe is a down-to-earth guy who, on the side, likes WWE wrestling and an occasional chocolate-chip cookie for breakfast."
In a recent commentary, columnist Mark Patinkin profiled Fr. Escobar and his pastoral ministry in Providence, RI.
