The Avon, CT, Free Public Library is offering, for those going
for a drive around the block or elsewhere, a themed Scavenger Hunt in
which participants can log designated persons, animals, vehicles, and/or
other activities they observe.

This reminds me of a time, prior to seventh grade (although the actual time frame is a bit hazy), when I was an I-Spy Ranger." I do not remember a lot of the details, but I remember receiving little themed books in the mail. These books contained lists (with line drawings) of items to look for during drives, etc., and I would check off the items as I observed them.
