Msgr. Pope on Amazement and Reverential Fear

“The Gospel from Wednesday of [last] week describes well a spiritual gift to be sought. It is from Mark 10:32 and says,

“The disciples were on the way, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went ahead of them. They were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. . . .

“We need to be both amazed and afraid, and the proper balance. . . .”

In a recent commentary, Monsignor Charles Pope (pastor of Holy Comforter-Saint Cyprian Parish, Washington, DC) reflected on our being drawn to God and the reverential fear related to this.
