A Connecticut Superior Court judge ordered that the City of Bridgeport pay over $3.4 million to the family of a mother and daughter killed as a result of an accident in which when their car was struck by Bridgeport Fire Department Ladder 5 on 31 July 2007. In her eighteen-page decision, the judge ruled that the firefighter driving the engine was negligent when he drove through a red traffic light at the intersection of Congress Street and Housatonic Avenue in downtown Bridgeport.
