"I heard of a place where society's tumult is kept at bay. So I went to see the Carmelite nuns of Barrington.
"They're a declining breed of souls devoting life to prayer and solitude.
"Nine of them live in a monastery on the waters of Narragansett Bay. Really, they number 12, but some are now in nursing homes.
"Their
average age is 70-something, with only a few newcomers in the last 15
years. . . ."
In a recent commentary, columnist Mark Patinkin profiled the nuns of the Carmelite Monastary in Barrington, RI.
