Today, 7 October, the Church celebrates the our Blessed Mother under her title of Our Lady of the Rosary.
This feast was established by Pope Pius V to commemorate the victory of the Christian army against the Turks in the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, a victory in which the praying of the Rosary by the armed forces was considered to be a decisive factor.
Pope (Saint) Pius V initially named this the Feast of Our Lady of Victories, and it was later changed to Our Lady of the Rosary.
