In a recent issue, the Kennebec Journal (Augusta, ME) carried an article about an increase in the number of reported incidents elderly abuse in Maine.
Each year, approximately 12,000 elderly people in Maine are reported as victims of physical abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation. However, according to a 2009 report compiled by the Elder Justice Training Partnership (see link below), it is estimated that 84 percent of abused elders do not come forward.
